"Instruments need to be in tune this being our first open air appearance"....
A reasonable audience capture of the bands' first festival appearance.....I won't bang about Deeply Vale as there is a more than effective website about it here.
Compared to the Oldham gig the following month this is the less palatable recording but all in all its a good capture of the gruppes baptism at a festival. History recalls it was raining and the audience was about 30 people - this does not diminish a polished performance with the extant material being played with some brio. Oddly Riley is very audible herein whereas on the Oldham recording he is missing in audio action.
Whether it was worth me shelling out 15 squids of my hard earned corn for this artefact is debatable - the cover photo is of the band at 1979 Deeply Vale Gig (of which perversely there is no recording) - and the sound is very tinny and good do with a tad more bass.
Notwithstanding that grumble - and some ongoing audience chatter - it's good to hear young Mark in full flow - specifically recommending inserting devices up "TV Front Man's" nether regions during "Mess of My".
The sound on the CD collapses on "Music Scene" as Mark morphs in to a helium voiced cartoon character as clearly speed problems on the recording take over.
I would urge caution before purchasing due to the sound but if you are a committed Fallatelist then you must have this.
